There are some hard facts that surround single parents. For example in the US, there are nearly 14 million single parents today that are raising more or less 21.6 million children. Of these single parent numbers, 83.1% are mothers and they are either divorced or separated in majority.

These are big numbers and no matter how impersonal these numbers may seem, they are indeed a representation of how single parenthood is a common occurrence and how it can pose a problem both to the nation and to the single parent families.

There are several societal effects of single parenthood. Studies and statistics have shown that the chance of poverty among the single parent families are more extensive than those families who have both their parents. Aside from this, it was also found out that the health of single parents or mothers are poorer than their counterparts.
